My favourite — usually played with my eyes closed. Short ball, big swing, and a quiet hope it lands on the other side of the rope.

Why this exists
Cricket through a measurement-engineer's eyes

I spend my days measuring AdTech — attribution, incrementality, clean rooms. I spend my weekends playing cricket. This page is the overlap: every shot has a "when to play" condition, the same way every measurement model has an assumption. The ones I get wrong most often? Probably the cover drive and last-click attribution.

The shot map shows the shots I aim for; the numbers above show what actually happens. I run in and bowl quick, and when it's my turn to bat I'd rather hit it over the ropes than along the ground — it doesn't always come off, but it makes for a fun afternoon. Six seasons and two formats in, that's added up to 207 wickets and a fair few lost balls.
